What is a Knowledgebook?
The definition, how it fills, and how it differs from AI memory.
A Knowledgebook is a living document of what you know: your people, your plans, your preferences, written in plain words you can read and edit. It fills as you chat with Ask Safely: when something seems worth keeping, Ask Safely proposes it, and nothing lands without your yes. Your AI answers like it knows you because you decided what it knows. Most AI memory is a black box on someone else's servers; a Knowledgebook is a page with your name on it. And when a chat clears, as every chat does on the timer you choose, the Knowledgebook stays.
That's the whole idea. The rest is how it works.
How it fills
Every chat with Ask Safely deletes itself on a timer you choose: 8 hours by default, or 7- or 30-day windows. What's worth keeping goes into a Knowledgebook, and "worth keeping" is your call, not ours.
A conversation starts turning into something durable: a plan, a preference, a fact about your family. Ask Safely proposes it: "This is turning into a plan. Keep it as a Knowledgebook?" Say Keep it, and the line lands on the page. Say Not now, and it leaves no trace.
You can also just write in it. It's your document. Add a line, change a line, delete a line. What the AI remembers updates with your edits, because the page and the memory are the same thing.
How it answers
Ask a question, and the answer arrives already knowing what you've kept: the kids' ages, the vegetarian rule, the way your Saturdays work. Under the answer sits a receipt showing which Knowledgebook each fact came from. Tap it and you're reading the source line.
That's the difference between an AI that remembers you and an AI you've briefed. One you have to check up on. The other shows its work before you ask.
How it differs from AI memory
Most AI memory fails you four ways. You can't read it. It's stored as data about you, not words for you. You can't correct it. Whatever it inferred, it keeps. You can't take it with you. The context you've built becomes the reason you can't leave. And it never shows its work. Answers arrive with no account of what shaped them.
A Knowledgebook is the opposite on every count. It's readable: plain words on a page. It's consented: nothing lands without your yes. It's attributed: receipts under every answer. And it's portable: it's a document, so exporting your Knowledgebooks is free, forever.
The deletion side is just as literal. When a chat clears, it's gone from your history. Encrypted in transit and at rest, and never used for training.
Where it's going
Because a Knowledgebook is a document rather than a database entry, it can go where you go. Later this year, Knowledgebooks travel: choose what another assistant can read, see every recall and its source, and stop sharing any time. Coming late 2026.
Who it's for
It's for the person whose life holds more context than any one chat can carry, and who's tired of re-explaining it. If you use AI once a week for trivia, you don't need this yet.
